[23/07/2010] Summer Events 2010
Finally, the sun is out again and smiling at us. And as it is summertime, there are great varieties of upcoming events in Bournemouth and its surrounding areas. Let me tell you about them...
The yearly Bournemouth Air Festival will take place on 19th-22nd August, this year. Famous air planes like the Eurofighter Typhoon or the Red Devils will be on display. This year, there are even more planes to see than in the last few years, because the air festival is now international! Thus, you will be able to see the Dutch F-16 Demo Team, the Italian Pioneers and many more! And it is, as they say:”By the sea and completely free” (for more information visit their website: www.bournemouthair.co.uk).
To escape from the loud noises of the fighters, you could visit the Dinosaurs Unleashed exhibition, which started in July and which runs until 5th of September. The exhibition shows “the UK’s largest collection of animatronic, life-sized dinosaurs with 22 full-size creatures” (www.bic.co.uk).
If the summer days are getting too hot for you, then you can cool off by ice skating at the BIC’s Summer Ice Rink. You can do that at the BIC (Bournemouth International Centre) from July until the end of August.
Bournemouth carnival week is coming soon, providing a huge programme of events from 29th July to 8th August, 2010. There will be a lot going on during that time.
If you love musicals, you will be happy to hear that there are musical shows in Bournemouth too. Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a musical with lyrics, written by Tim Rice and music composed by the famous Andrew Lloyd Webber.
And if you want to listen to The Sound of Music, you will be able to do so in September (22nd Sept. - 9th Oct.), at the Pavilion Theatre.
Another musical, called “That’ll be the day” will take place earlier, from the 25th of August until the 18th of September in the Pavilion Theatre.
And there will be even more Music and Dance events, for example the ABBA Mania Music event on the 22nd August, the 5th and 12th September. If you are under 16 years old, you only have to pay half price! (Prices: £19-£22.50).
A weekly fireworks spectacle takes place, every Thursday in August from 7 pm on the Shore Road Beach in Sandbanks. With live music, played by a band on the terrace of the Sandbanks Hotel, you have the possibility to play beach volleyball, dine at the beachside and see the spectacular fireworks finale. But those will not be the only fireworks in the region, there are more! (for more details visit: www.bsolive.com).
And if you are a student at ETC, you are lucky to be able to take part in even more activities!
Go and have a look at our activity plans (on the pinboards in the main student entrances), where you can find a plan with a new programme every week.
You can take trips to London, Winchester, Bath, Oxford, Stonehenge, Swanage, the Jurassic coast, etc. or take part in a range of other fun cultural, social or sports events.
If you want to do something else, or if you miss something in the programme, just come and tell us about your ideas!
Happy summer days!
