Elizabeth Williams
Elizabeth Williams is the Assistant Director of Studies at ETC International College. If you have a problem, Elizabeth will be happy to help you solve it, she is a quiet, gentle soul who doesn’t make a fuss about her work or the difference that she makes to the school every day. But what lies behind that quiet exterior; what makes our Assistant Director of Studies tick?
What is your perfect idea of happiness?
I think that if everyone else was happy then I would be happy.
I don’t mean that if everyone had all the possessions that they wanted I would be delighted, more that if everyone was at peace with themselves we would all be a lot happier.
Which living person do you most admire?
My husband. He is the kindest, most generous person I know.
He is the centre of our family.
What is the most important lesson life has taught you?
To respect other people from all walks of life and to accept them for what they are, I have met a lot of people, in my life and the most important thing is to value each and every one.
What was the last book that you read?
A book on the Italian Opera. I absolutely love the opera and I am going to three operas this autumn, two in London and one in Southampton.
Quick question: What is your favourite book?
Probably something by Shakespeare. I have never found Shakespeare inaccessible and I often read a sonnet to relax me.
I had great teachers when I was younger and this must have influenced my love of Shakespeare. I also like Thomas Hardy a lot.
And finally, what is your favourite piece of music and why?
Without a doubt, it’s Bach’s double violin concerto. It’s quite a short piece but it conjures so many emotions. Parts of it are sad and sorrowful and other parts are joyful and clear, almost a metaphor for life!
